We’ve Been Up for Hours and It’s Still Only 7am

I look at the time. 7am.
We’ve been up since 5:30am. Honestly, I can’t even remember the last time I was asleep after sunrise.

So far this morning, we’ve ticked off some Wiggles, built and demolished at least ten block towers, and dug through the sensory sand tub until it’s basically half the living room carpet now. As I sip my second coffee, I yawn and sigh.
Still two more hours until the bloody library opens.
The boredom is real.
But at the same time, getting ready to go out feels like it takes an eternity.
Maybe I can sneak in a quick shower while they watch the Wiggles. I’ll try that.
Not long after I turn on the tap, in wanders my little shadow with some urgent demand to play.
That’s okay. I won’t wash my hair today. It probably needed it, but that’s what dry shampoo is for, right?
Okay. Get dressed.
Ugh. So over my wardrobe. It’s winter, so pants it is.
Upon closer inspection, most of my pants have started to fray in the inner thigh area. Great.
I find a pair that’s fairly clean and throw on an oversized tee.
7:30am. Time to get the little dressed.
Nappy change. Wiggles shirt on. More Wiggles while I wrestle the shoes and socks on too.
“You have to wear shoes! It’s freezing! Yes, a jumper too!”
8:00am. Alright, time to pack some snacks.
But of course, the little has had enough of mum doing tasks and is now demanding attention and playtime.
Okay, play for 20 minutes…
Why am I so bored? It takes everything in me not to get absorbed into my phone. Put the phone away. Pay attention.
Try to attempt making lunch.
“Mum! Milk!”
“Mum! Cuddles!”
“Mum! Different TV show!”
Wtf. It’s 9:00am.
Baby rhyme time starts now.
Okay. Grab all the belongings. Argh… water bottle! Forgot to make a coffee. Quickly make a takeaway one. Grab the bub.
Five-minute argument about getting into the car seat.
“No, you can’t watch Bluey on my phone. It’s only a two-minute drive!”
Cue tantrum.
Arrive at 9:30am. Missed story time.
Well… great.
