She Sat Down… and Everything Went Quiet

I was having a coffee with a friend the other day, you know the kind of friend who’s quieter, grounding, and says wise things when you need them?
She shared a story that hit me right in the gut.
While playgroups were my go-to when I was on mat leave (I’m bubbly, I talk to walls), for her, it was harder. She’s more reserved, the quiet type, the kind of person you’re lucky to meet if you just slow down long enough.
She went to a playgroup recently, hoping for a little connection. A change of scenery. Something for her bub to enjoy.
But the host didn’t acknowledge her. No hello. No welcome. No “Here’s what’s happening today.”
Just a room of noise and unspoken rules.

She found a spot to sit and joined a group of mums already chatting… and everything went quiet.
It was giving serious “you can’t sit with us” energy.
She hadn’t even said a word yet and by the time she considered it, she couldn’t. She’d already turned mute.
And my heart broke a little. Because this is how isolation starts.
Not with big dramatic moments.
But with tiny silences.
Invisible lines.
And a host who forgets to notice the quiet ones.
💕 Why Thriving Mums Club Exists
That story?
It’s why I created Thriving Mums Club.
To make sure no mum, bubbly or not, ever walks into a room and feels invisible.
Our events are designed for fun, inclusion, and a little sparkle, because motherhood shouldn’t feel like high school all over again.
