Brace Yourselves… The Easter Chocolate Storm is Coming

You can hear it coming.
A faint rustle of foil. A whisper of sugar in the breeze. A distant cry of “Muuuuum, why can’t I eat just ONE egg before breakfast?”
Yes, friends. Easter is nearly here.
And with it comes the annual sugar tsunami we pretend we’ve got under control.
Right now, your kids are probably making sweet, innocent comments like:
“I’ll just eat one egg on Easter Sunday!”
“I’ll save my chocolate this year.”
“I’m going to share with my siblings!”
You nod, smiling gently, knowing full well that come Easter morning, they will transform into sugar-fuelled woodland creatures with zero memory of their own promises. One egg becomes five. Breakfast becomes a chocolate bunny buffet. The dog finds half a Smartie in someone’s sock. You lose track of time and the will to parent.
But let’s pause. Breathe. Reflect.
Before the chaos hits, can we maybe try to slip in a little life lesson amidst the chocolatey madness?
Because while Easter is all about joy, family, and that sweet, sweet cocoa rush—it’s also a brilliant opportunity to talk to our kids about:
1. Self-control
No, you don’t have to eat it all in one sitting just because it’s shaped like a bunny.
(And no, eating 8 eggs does not turn you into the Easter Bunny. We’ve tested it. Trust me.)
2. Gratitude
We’re lucky to celebrate with so many treats. Some kids don’t get chocolate at all. So maybe we can slow down, savour, and say a little thank you before inhaling our third egg at 6:30am.
3. Sharing without the drama
If you break the egg, you don’t automatically get the bigger half. Let’s practice the kind of sharing that doesn’t involve tears, timers, or bartering with jellybeans.
4. Balance
Yes, chocolate is a food group this weekend. But so is fruit. And water. And not running in circles like a hyper caffeinated wombat.
5. And hey—don’t forget the J-man.
Whether it’s your thing or not, Easter’s got some pretty deep roots. It’s not just about bunnies and cocoa comas—there’s also a pretty epic story of hope, love, and fresh starts. A great reminder for kids (and us) that this time of year is about more than just sugar highs and chocolate wrappers.

And to us, the grown-ups:
Let’s not pretend we’re better. We’ll be in the pantry too, unwrapping “just one more” after bedtime.
Let’s show our kids what balance looks like. Which means yes, we can sneak a treat… but maybe we also demonstrate saying “no thanks” after egg number four. (Or at least pretend to.)
So, as we head toward the great chocolate-fuelled celebration of Easter, let’s arm ourselves with patience, wet wipes, and maybe a veggie platter… for decorative purposes.
We’ve got this.
And if not… well, there’s always post-Easter detox. (Or at least hiding in the laundry with the last Creme Egg.)
Happy almost Easter – may your baskets be full, your lessons be gentle, and your furniture be relatively chocolate-free.
